7 Health Tips for Lash Artists

The ultimate lash health is to take care of yourself! We at The Lash Professional truly believe that in order to care for others, you must first care for yourself. To stay mentally and physically healthy, you must treat yourself and your body with kindness and care in order to feel great and do your best work.

Here are seven tips for taking better care of your body both inside and outside of the lash salon. Cheers to the health of your lashes!

Posture

It is critical to maintain good posture while lashing! Leaning too far forward or hunching over the lash bed can cause aches and pains in your neck and back, as well as long-term back problems. To avoid this, bring the client's head as close to you as possible, so you don't have to lean too far over them. Place the lashing bed and your adjustable stool at a height that allows you to sit straight and upright, with both feet still on the ground (Place your feet on either side of the bed, straddling it while performing the service.) Another comfortable option is to place your legs under the table if your lashing bed allows it.) In this position, you should be able to comfortably rest your arms at a 90-degree angle on the pillow, or rest your hands on the client's forehead.

Stretch

As a lash artist, you spend a lot of time sitting and being sedentary. As a result, it is critical to take breaks between clients to get up, stretch, and walk around. This exercise is beneficial to your muscles, joints, and blood circulation. Make time during the day to walk around the block or, at the very least, stand up, walk around, and stretch.

Drink water

Staying hydrated throughout the day will keep your energy up and your mind and body functioning at their best.

Eat healthy

Choose foods that are high in energy and fuel. You will not only feel better and more energized throughout the day, but you will also avoid the afternoon sugar/caffeine crash. Recharge your batteries – get enough sleep! The amount of sleep that each person requires at night in order to function properly the following day varies greatly depending on the individual. It's critical to understand what your body requires in order to feel rested, alert, and perform at your best. If you start your day tired and groggy, sitting still behind a lash bed will only make it more difficult to concentrate.

Dress comfortably

This does not preclude you from wearing cute clothes. However, we recommend wearing outfits that allow you to sit comfortably all day, aren't too tight, and don't require you to move around and/or adjust constantly.

Eye care

While performing the service, squinting or straining your eyes can result in headaches and blurred vision. If this occurs, we recommend using magnifying (or reading) glasses, or adding additional/brighter lights to your workstation.

Exercise

Exercising in your spare time is critical to your overall health and body care. Keeping active and maintaining a strong "core" will make all the difference when it comes to your ability to sit and lash for long periods of time, whether it's yoga, climbing, running, or even something more mild – such as walking or stretching.

You will feel better, have more energy, and be able to take better care of your clients if you are well rested, strong, and healthy. "You can't pour from an empty cup – first take care of yourself."
